Privacy policy
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Shoople (“we”, “us”) is an app for planning your shopping, sharing what you found and seeing what people near you paid. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it and the choices you have. We follow Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
What we collect
- Your account: when you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and, if you have one, your profile photo. You choose a username and can add a city and a short bio.
- What you post: photos and videos, captions, the place you tag (for example “Kejetia Market, Adum”), the items you bought and the prices you were asked and paid, and whether your photos were taken with the in-app camera at the shop.
- What you do in the app: who you follow, your likes, comments, saves and votes, and the shopping visits we count on your profile (the place and the day).
- Your shopping plans: lists you make are kept on your phone. If you share or send a plan, the people you share it with can see it. We count how many plans are made and how (typed, pasted, from a template or copied) and how many items they have, never what’s on them.
- My Shooples: photos and videos you take with the Shoople camera stay on your phone for up to 30 days (with the area and time you took them and any price you noted). They’re uploaded only when you post them.
- Shops and chats: if you open a shop, its name, details, pictures and products are public. Messages and offers between buyers and shops are stored so both sides can see them.
- Notifications: if you allow notifications, we store a token for your phone so we can send you alerts (likes, comments, follows, messages). You choose which ones in Settings.
- Reports and blocks: if you report something, we keep the report and a copy of what was reported (for a chat, its recent messages) so our team can review it. If you block someone, we keep that so you don’t see each other.
- Location (only if you allow it): while you post or start shopping, we ask your phone for a rough position (low accuracy, never in the background) and turn it into an area name such as “Adum, Kumasi”. We keep only the area or place name you post with, never your GPS coordinates. Other people never see your exact location.
- Contacts (only if you allow it): when you choose to invite friends, the app reads phone numbers on your phone so you can pick who to text. Your contacts are not uploaded to our servers.
- Camera and microphone: used only when you take a photo or video (the microphone records the video’s sound). Location details (EXIF data) are removed from photos before they are uploaded.
How we use it
- To run the app: show your posts and profile, your feed, comments and follows.
- To build community prices: what people paid becomes part of anonymous price summaries for an item and area.
- To count your Shopping and Places on your profile (at most one visit per place per day).
- To keep Shoople safe: preventing spam, fake activity and abuse, and reviewing reports. Our team can remove content and suspend accounts that break our terms.
- To improve Shoople: counts of how the app is used (for example how many plans or posts are made), without personal details.
We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t show you ads based on it.
Who can see what
- Posts: you choose for each post: everyone, your followers, or your close friends.
- Private account: only people who follow you see your posts and the places you’ve shopped.
- Hide my Places: your profile shows only the counts, not where you shop.
- Shared links: if you share a link to a public post or your profile, people who open it on the web see its photo, title and your name, even without the app. Followers-only and close-friends posts, and posts from private accounts, are never shown this way.
- Prices: shown to others as community prices for an item and area.
Who we share it with
We use trusted providers to run Shoople: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage), Vercel (our website), Expo (app updates and sending notifications, through Apple and Google’s notification services), Google and Apple (sign-in, and your phone’s location service to name your area). They process data only to provide their service to us. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, posts, photos and videos, comments, likes, follows, saves and visits straight away. Prices you shared stay only as anonymous community prices with no link to you. Copies in backups are removed within 30 days.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, delete posts, and change who sees your posts at any time.
- Turn off location, camera, contacts or microphone access in your phone’s settings. You can always type a place yourself.
- Delete your account in the app: Profile › Settings › Delete account. See how to delete your account.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, by emailing hello@shoople.site. You can also complain to Ghana’s Data Protection Commission.
Children
Shoople is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, contact us and we’ll remove it.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Every database table is protected so people can only read what they’re allowed to see, and nobody can write on your behalf.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
